What's New

SolSource is growing along with Colorado's New Energy Economy. As a leading designer and installer of renewable energy systems, we want to keep you informed of new developments in our company and around the region.

Xcel Energy Encourages Energy Conservation During Summer Months

Xcel Energy is launching a two-tiered rate plan aimed at encouraging its Colorado customers to cut electricity use during the summer. The plan takes effect June 1 and will be in place through September. Customers will be charged the lower rate of 0.098 per kilowatt hour for the first 500-kilowatt hours and 0.14 per kilowatt hour for use above 500 kilowatt hours. Xcel Energy says figured on annual basis, most customers will likely pay nearly the same as under a single-tier system. An average residential customer using about 632 kilowatt hours per month will pay roughly $75, a 2.5 percent increase. Xcel says the summer rate is designed to encourage conservation during peak usage months.

Governor Ritter Signs New Renewable Energy Standard Bill at SolSource's New Headquarters

On March 22, 2010 Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, right at center, signed into law House Bill 1001 requiring that 30 percent of the state's electricity be generated from renewable sources by 2020, giving Colorado the highest renewable energy standard in the Rocky Mountain West. The Bill signing took place in front of over 200 guests in the new SolSource headquarters at 6850 Broadway in Denver. Jeff Scott, SolSource founder and president, introduced the Governor. SolSource Installs Solar Hot Water for Aquatic Center

SolSource will be completing the installation of a 102 collector solar hot water system for the Adams 12 School District Aquatic Center. When fully operational later this summer, this system is designed to produce 60% of the hot water needs for the olympic sized pool. SolSource was pleased to work with Adolfson & Peterson General Contractors and the Adams 12 School District.

Jeff Scott Teaches Class at Sandoval Elementary School

On December 15, 2009, thirty 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students at Academy Sandoval in Denver, got a special class on solar energy from Jeff Scott founder of SolSource, Inc. This was the first time a DPS school used web-based data monitoring to teach children about renewable energy from solar panels on their own school. The children experienced the added excitement of a CBS Channel 4 TV news crew covering the event. You can watch the news clip at this link.

Xcel Energy Solar Rebates are Dropping!

The previous solar rebate available from Xcel Energy for residential solar projects was $3.50 per watt. That rebate amount has recently dropped to $3.00. We expect the next drop will lower the rebate to $2.85 per installed watt. The utility rebate system, structured around a series of tiers which gradually lower rebate amounts, is also dropping for larger commercial systems. If you have not already decided to “Go Solar” the time is now!

To learn more about the rebate drop and to take advantage of the highest rebate possible please contact us as soon as possible.

SolSource Wins 1.2 MW Contract

SolSource, Inc. won a $7.3 million contract with partner AMEC Earth & Environmental to install a 1.2 MW solar photovoltaic system at Buckley Air Force Base (BAFB) in Aurora, Colorado. SolSource Energy Solutions Installs Enphase Micro-Inverter System

SolSource Energy Solutions recently designed and installed an Enphase system for a residential client in Littleton, CO. The 5.29 kW solar photovoltaic system consists of 23 Sharp 230 Watt modules and 23 Enphase M190 Micro-Inverters. Micro-Inverters are a new technology that allow each solar panel to function independently in its production of electricity from solar energy. The ability to design solar systems that do not need to be connected in a "string" with a minimum number of panels to be effective, greatly opens the door for solar PV systems to be placed on roofs that are partially in shade and roofs that have a variable pitches. Sharp Panels Weather Hail Storm

Do you ever wonder what happens to your photovoltaic system when a heavy hail or strong weather storm hits? Well, here's an answer for you. A recent hail storm in Wheat Ridge, CO, caused heavy damage to the neighborhood and home of one of our clients. The homeowner lost windows, skylights, and a few trees. However, the 10 kW Sharp PV system installed last Spring is fully functional and was not affected.
